CEC Ecozones for North America. This data set shows forests of North America, classified according to FAO ecological zones (EZ). The data set was created by modifying the Ecological Regions of North America (ecoregions) data included in the North American Atlas. Ecoregion classifications were converted to the FAO EZ classes, based on the Forest Resource Assessment (FRA) 2010, and minor adjustments were made to polygon geometry. In addition, data were added for Hawaii and Puerto Rico, and additional lakes were imported.

Managed Forest Boundaries as defined for UNFCCC Greenhouse Gas Inventory Reporting. Under the United Nations Conventon on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Canada must report annually on gerenhouse gas emissions and removals from the 'managed forest,' which represents a subset of the total forest area in Canada. The intergovermental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Good Practice Guidance for LULUCF (Land Use and Land Use Change in Forestry) defines forest management as 'the process of planning and implmeneting practices for stewardship and use of the forest aimed at fulfilling relevant ecological (including biological diversity), economic and social functions of the forest in a sustainable manner.
